Once the information in the previous steps has been identified, students are given time to respond to it, either in class or as a homework assignment. Students may be permitted to complete the assignment either individually, in groups, or in pairs. When the students have completed the assignment, the teacher leads a class wide discussion on each individual students judgment as to accept, reject, or withhold acceptance of the claim, and a summary of their reasoning and conclusions about the claim and the type of thinking used. Students are asked to share their conclusion with the class, and the teacher points to ways that this type of evaluation can be used in the course or real world.
